Sun Chemical has established a new European Coldset Centre.
-
Sun Chemical has established a new European Coldset Centre in London, incorporating extensive Laboratory and R&D facilities and product management. The new facility confirms Sun Chemical's unwavering commitment to future research on behalf of its European customers.
-
Following a two-year market survey, Sun Chemical has developed the Matrix program, incorporating five ink ranges that are designed to give newspaper customers a more simple choice of inks that have been specifically designed to give optimised print quality for individual press requirements.
-
"Matrix will take us forward into 2006 with ink ranges that our customers want and which will perform to their expectations." says Steve Lilley, Sun Chemical's European Product Director for Coldset.
-
Matrix has been created to give printers Euro Standard inks specifically linked to market requirements and with a methodology that enables swift, exact selection. The inks have been formulated for different press configurations, requirements for rub resistance, setting, rheology, mileage and for a wide range of different substrates. Customers will be able to pinpoint their requirements by flow and performance.
-
Sun Chemical is positive that the innovative vehicle technology at the heart of the New Polar Advanced System demonstrates exceptional lithographic characteristics, allowing the printer to achieve stable ink/water balance quickly for optimum transfer and good quality smooth solids on a wider range of different grammage newspaper stocks.
-
In addition Matrix has been developed to incorporate the latest flush pigment technology and advanced vehicle formulations to optimise trapping and transfer characteristics of the ink. "The result "says Mr. Lilley "is a cleaner, sharper reproduction with minimal ink lay-down and associated advantages that this gives with runnability, press performance and post press equipment."
Waterless
-
Project Shark is an on-going undertaking within Sun Chemical, to produce novel environmentally-friendly waterless Coldset Inks.
-
The inks contain raw materials not previously employed in traditional ink formulations; and new methods of pigment flushing and ink manufacture have been developed to complement these new materials. Shark technology is designed to incorporate a number of advantages over traditional waterless inks; they are water-washable, contain low VOC's, are non-misting, and can be applied successfully to a broad range of substrates. Shark ink rheology is advantageous when compared with existing waterless inks; viscosities tend to be lower and less sensitive to variations in press temperature.
