ISIS™ is a Technical Programme with a progressive approach towards excellence in productivity. It involves Sun Chemical personnel on site, as well as "team work". All the Sun Chemical know-how in inks and graphic arts is needed to build the pyramid, and former Heatset printers from Sun Chemical technical teams are performing these steps:
- Delivery on time and in full
- Consistent and stable quality
- Local contacts
- Effective supply chain and services
- What the Technical Audit Programme Does Do:
- A Sun Chemical technician measures on the press the key parameters such as:
- Fount chemistry
- Temperature – chills, rollers
- Lithographic performance (visual) (performed by former press operators)
- A report is released for each visit on each press
- If necessary, corrective actions or recommendations are made on the report so that immediate adjustments could be made by the print shop
- What Technical Audit Programme Does Not Do:
- Only key running parameters are measured, not a full analysis of the workflow
- One day measurement does not take into account the complete conditions of work on the press (different papers, different jobs, etc...)
- A technician approach does not calculate the cash savings and the added value created
- Visits are at periodic intervals (linear improvement)
- Internal and external training programme include:
- Simulator
- Seminars
- Water, fount quality
- Paper
- Troubleshooting
- Ink Properties
- When the process is stabilised through the Technical Audit, and the appropriate tailor made training has been done, "team work" can start with fine tuning of ink and the choice of printer supplies and utilisation.
- Fount Solution and Silicon
- SunFOUNT™ for all types of presses and dampening systems, with proven high productivity alcohol free technology
- SunSIL™ when simple products can make great things when optimised for Heatset printing
- Total Cost to Print™ is a service product based on close technical relationships and Technical Audit programmes running for many months. These audit , the full workflow of printing on ONE Heatset press versus the best practices accumulated through the years by Sun Chemical, and performed by a former experienced web Heatset printer trained in ink/fount technology.
- Background Situation
- As in many industries, the market pressure is driving the selling price of printed products down
- The world of Graphic Arts faces big problems to find an equilibrium in the matter of profitability, and also to get high return on investment as a printer
- We all have to find solutions to optimise the printing process, for quality as well as profitability
- To Do What
- To better improve productivity, one should analyse and measure the entire internal workflow, eventually taking into account interactions with inlet/outlet points with the environment (editor, distributor, etc…)
- The focus should be sufficient to get valuable data to analyse and draw conclusions
- The system should motivate and ensure commitment of the printer's internal staff at all levels (print shop, pre-press, management, etc…)
- Who
- In general, the resources available internally at a printer are limited and are not available to leave the day to day production job to measure and analyse
- The use of an external consultancy is valuable if:
- Full confidentiality is accepted so that the books can be opened
- The print shop does not perceive the consultant as an intruder, but as help to get the job done with better efficiency and in many cases with greater ease
- The conclusion of the study is sufficiently documented and with figures, so that the recommended improvement scheme can be easily accepted by the printer staff
- Win/Win Situation
- We are part of the production presses as an ink and fount manufacturer
- We have developed high technical support with local presence and regular visits (Technical Audit Programme). So day after day, Sun Chemical is helping your team get the process to run smoothly.
- Ink cost is marginal in the total cost of a printed product. However, we can bring significant cost savings throughout technical programmes.
