Launching Pad

Bushy Park, SC - Christine Canning Esposito, Coatings World - September 01, 2005 --

For Sun Chemical's Performance Pigments unit, Bushy Park is more than a facility; company officials see it as a launching pad.

"It is an outward symbol to the industry that we are serious about being a global supplier and are challenging others in the market," said Brian Leen, vice president and general manager, Performance Pigments, at Sun Chemical, which already commands an enviable position in the pigment category, accounting for approximately 22% of the estimated 220K MT global market for organic pigments.

Sun Chemical acquired the facility in 2003 through a deal with Bayer Polymers LLC. The accord included Bayer's high performance organic pigment chemistry for automotive, industrial and architectural coatings as well as colorants for plastics and fibers.

Located approximately 25 miles outside Charleston, SC, the 190-acre campus marks the platform on which this global company's Performance Pigments unit plans to grow into a dominant supplier to the coatings marketplace.
