Organic Violets for Plastics
Cincinnati
--
It’s time for a slight shift in color space. The last three issues have dealt with the variety of reds that are used in the coloring of plastics. The subject of this issue will be violet. While there are no where near as many types of violets used as there are reds, a few that need to be reviewed.
C.I. Pigment Violet 23 – This pigment, commonly known as Carbazole Violet, is the “workhorse” organic violet pigment for the coloring of plastics. Not considering C.I. Pigment Violet 19 which was reviewed along with the other Quinacridones in an earlier issue, Carbazole Violet accounts for approximately 90% of the violet pigment used in the application. Chemically, C.I. Pigment Violet 23 falls into the Dioxazine class of organic pigments.
