Peter Ludwig To Retire As Executive Vice President, Sun Chemical Corporation, The Colors Group

Fort Lee, NJ - April 30, 2002 -- Peter Ludwig has elected to retire after 40 years of service and leadership with Sun Chemical. Mr. Ludwig's decision to retire as Executive Vice President and General Manager, The Colors Group, is effective July 1, 2002.

Wes Lucas, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sun Chemical, stated, "We all have much to thank Peter for. During the last forty years with our company, most of them spent in our pigments business, he has created much value for Sun Chemical."

Mr. Ludwig joined the company in 1964 as a trainee, quickly rising through several financial management positions of increasing responsibility. In 1971, he became Group Controller and was then promoted to General Manager, Pigments Division in 1980. In 1988, he became Vice President and General Manager, Pigments International.

"Under Peter's leadership, Pigments International grew at a double-digit rate," Mr. Lucas continued. "He assumed responsibility for our pigments business at a particularly challenging time, and was successful in creating a strong position in high performance pigments for non-ink markets. As a result of his efforts, Sun Chemical is now a leading supplier globally in many non-ink markets, with a foundation to continue this growth."

Mr. Ludwig was promoted to Senior Vice President in 1995 while continuing to oversee the development of Sun's European colorants business. In 1997, he was named Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, The Colors Group, assuming his current position in 2000.

A native of Germany, Mr. Ludwig holds a degree in business administration from the University of Munich.
