Robert Walsh Appointed Senior Vice President and COO, Sun Chemical Corporation, The Colors Group

Fort Lee, NJ - April 30, 2002 -- Wes Lucas, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sun Chemical Corporation, has announced the appointment of Robert (Bob) Walsh to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The Colors Group, effective July 1, 2002.

Mr. Lucas noted, "Bob is uniquely qualified to be COO for The Colors Group. With thirty years of experience in the pigments industry, he has been a major contributor to the growth and success of our business. In his expanded role, Bob will be responsible for such key initiatives as increasing the value-add of our customer solutions, expanding the technology of our products, improving the quality of service to our customers, Six Sigma/ Presidential Quality, and focusing on developing our people's capabilities."

With the retirement of Peter Ludwig, Executive Vice President and General Manager on July 1, 2002, all operations of The Colors Group will report to Mr. Walsh. Mr. Walsh will have the operational leadership role for The Colors Group. Regarding Mr. Ludwig's General Manager position, this position will be filled at a later date.

Prior to assuming his current role of Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for The Colors Group, Mr. Walsh led the International Pigments Group in Wavre, Belgium. There he was active in the development of Sun's pigments business both in Europe and other international markets, and continued Sun's growth into new, global markets serving the paint, plastics, ink and cosmetics industries.

Mr. Walsh began his career with Sun Chemical Corporation in 1972 as a financial analyst within the Pigments Division. In 1975, he became Controller for the Cincinnati site. He later moved through such key positions as Pigments Division Controller in 1980; Colors Group Vice President for Administration in 1988; Deputy General Manager in 1992; General Manager in 1994; Corporate Vice President in 1996; and Vice President and General Manager of Pigments International in 1997. In 2001, he was promoted to Senior Vice President. Mr. Walsh is currently President of the Ecological and Toxicological Association of Dyes & Organic Pigments Manufacturers (ETAD).

A native of Chillicothe, Ohio, Mr. Walsh was educated at Ohio University, where he earned both a BBA and an MBA degree.
