Sun Chemical Opens Ink Faciliy Near Poland's Capital

Warsaw, Poland - July 02, 2003 -- Sun Chemical Corporation, the industry's global leader in printing inks and organic pigments, has announced the recent opening of a new, world-class ink manufacturing facility in the city of Marki, near Warsaw. Sun Chemical's expansion in Poland strengthens its position as a leader in the Eastern European market.

"Poland is an important center for the media, printing and packaging, and Sun Chemical is committed to supporting this region's aggressive expansion" said Wes Lucas, Chairman, President and CEO of Sun Chemical. "Sun Chemical began serving Poland in the 1930s through its Hartmann subsidiary. This expansion reinforces Sun Chemical's role in supporting the growth of the printing and packaging industries within Poland with world class technology, as well as local production and support"

Poland's rapid rate of pressroom modernization, the growth of both locally-owned and international printing companies in Poland, and the strong exports from Poland are some reasons stated for the expansion. "A population of 40 million, coupled with political and economic stability, makes Poland an attractive location to expand Sun's presence in Eastern Europe," said George Kekelidze, Sun Chemical's Eastern European Managing Director.

Pawel Prokesz, Sun Chemical General Manager in Poland, said the plant will produce both paste and liquid inks, offering a new level of service for Polish printers and other markets that Sun Chemical serves in Eastern Europe. The Marki plant will have substantially upgraded production facilities with special emphasis on safety, as well as a state-of-the-art ink laboratory, Prokesz said. Sun Chemical also has a branch in Poznan and in-plant operations at the printing facilities of some customers.
