Kenneth C. Collins Retires from Sun Chemical after 39 years
Fort Lee, NJ
- March 18, 2003 -- Kenneth C. Collins will retire from Sun Chemical effective March 31, following a distinguished 39-year career.
"Ken has been a key leader for many years within Sun Chemical and the industry, and has been the driving force behind Sun's successful purchasing capability," stated Wes Lucas, Sun Chemical's Chairman, President and CEO. "Ken is highly respected in the industry and has played a significant role in many industry-wide groups," he added.
Mr. Collins became Senior Vice President, Corporate Purchasing and Supply Chain Management in 1999. In this role, he was responsible for all aspects of global purchasing, including the acquisition of raw materials, freight management, and corporate fleet administration. He also oversaw corporate travel activity and purchasing of business printing.
Prior to assuming his most recent position, Mr. Collins was the Vice President, Corporate Purchasing for nine years.
Mr. Collins began his career at Sun Chemical in 1964 in the R&D lab of the company's Electro Tech division. Since then, he has held many positions of increasing responsibility. He moved on to quality control and production manager positions in the Facile division, and then changed his focus to printing ink in 1974, when he was made purchasing manager of Sun's Graphic Arts group. Four years later, he was promoted to group plant manager of Sun's three Midwest ink manufacturing facilities, and then in 1981 he became general manager of GPI's corrugated inks, a post he held for nearly six years. In 1987, he was named Director of Purchasing for the Graphic Arts group, and in 1989 he became the Director of Corporate Purchasing.
Mr. Collins holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
Respected as an expert on raw material availability, Mr. Collins was an active member of the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM). He was a featured speaker at several NAPIM meetings and conventions, as well as the chairman of NAPIM's Raw Material Committee in 1990. He earned NAPIM's prestigious Printing Ink Pioneer Award in 1996.
