Sun Chemical Develops Systems for Printers to Control Costs and Build Productivity

Düsseldorf, Germany - May 06, 2004 -- Controlling costs has become a primary concern for printers of all types, and Sun Chemical has developed two data-driven systems to help printers and converters achieve new levels of cost control, while improving their working efficiency.

Sun Chemical is now offering the Capturing Value system for sheetfed printers and ISIS for heatset web printers in Europe. Both emphasize measuring the Total Cost to Print, and are consultative services based on the skills that Sun Chemical has acquired through its involvement in pressrooms worldwide. These services aim to help printers and converters identify industry best practices they can employ to control costs, to improve their ability to compete and to increase profitability. Sun Chemical plans to offer both systems in North America later this year.

Many printers do not have the tools to identify and implement potential savings. Under Capturing Value and ISIS, Sun Chemical representatives will work with printers, employing an analytical methodology that will review all materials and methods being used and identify opportunities for savings. Both systems have been customized to produce optimum results for the different printing processes.

"Sun Chemical can be a printer's most valuable partner," said Felipe Mellado, Vice President, Marketing & Technology, Sun Chemical Europe. "We will work with the printer to select better materials or tighten procedures, which can be very beneficial."

Both systems are based on the successful Six Sigma business process, which is used to build quality products and customer services throughout Sun Chemical's global operations. Six Sigma, which is used across many industries, targets zero defects and benchmarks processes to find better, smarter solutions that will benefit the company, its employees and its customers.

"Six Sigma is a strategy that drives improvement in every area of our business," Mellado added. "It works because it features bottom-up problem-solving to deliver quality, which is a competitive advantage. ISIS and Capturing Value aim to pass on this culture to our printing partners to help them achieve a more profitable future."

Sun Chemical will demonstrate the value of these consultative services at drupa 2004 in PrintCity Hall 6, Booths A79 and B79. Please visit
