Sun Chemical, Inca Digital to Unveil High-Speed Digital Soultion for Corrugated Printing

Düsseldorf, Germany - May 06, 2004 -- Sun Chemical, in partnership with Inca Digital Printers, will demonstrate high-speed digital ink jet technology for the direct printing of corrugated packaging at drupa 2004. This print solution allows full-colour sheetfed printing on corrugated substrates at more than 10 times the speed of today's ink-jet technology.

"Sun Chemical supports its customers in a changing marketplace by leading the way with solutions," said Stefan Slembrouck, product director for corrugated inks, Sun Chemical Europe. "With new digital printing technology coming online almost daily, we are poised to provide value to the customers who trust Sun Chemical to deliver innovative solutions."

"Sun Chemical recognizes that digital printing introduces a new dynamic to the marketplace," added Jim Wegemer, director of paper packaging, Sun Chemical North America. "We also understand the impact digital technology will have in corrugated package printing, so we will continue to develop solutions to enable our customers to capture value in this marketplace."

While leveraging its knowledge in corrugated and UV inks, Sun Chemical has partnered with Inca Digital to deliver a complete, integrated solution to this evolving market.

Sun Chemical and Inca Digital recently announced a partnership to commercialize this breakthrough technology, which Sun Chemical has dubbed FastJetÔ. It utilizes state-of-the-art pigmented UV inks developed by Sun Chemical on an array of fixed ink-jet heads, producing high-quality colour at a linear print speed of 100 metres (300 ft) per minute and a resolution of 200x300 dpi, at a print width of 520 mm. This equals 3,000 square metres (30,000 square feet) per hour of output, surpassing any product currently available in the market. The demonstrations printed at the show will be on corrugated sheets 600 mm wide.

"This represents a significant advancement for the packaging industry and will allow greatly improved graphic capability that can be easily customized through the use of variable data in a single pass on the press," said Slembrouck.

The prototype digital press will be part of PrintCity's "Print Factory" in Hall 6 of Messe Düsseldorf, where more than 40 member companies will showcase their products in a working environment. Sun Chemical will introduce a variety of products and services designed to improve productivity and quality for printers at drupa 2004, May 6-19.

Sun Chemical's collaborative effort with Inca Digital is designed to commercialize single-pass printing in sheetfed corrugated board printing for packaging. Sun Chemical is providing technical expertise to develop this technology, while SunJet is the ink supplier.

The Sun Chemical global family of brands will be represented at drupa in PrintCity Hall 6, booths A79 and B79. Please visit
