SmartColour™ Offers Precise Control of Colours for Branded Packaging

Düsseldorf, Germany - May 06, 2004 -- SmartColour™, Sun Chemical's integrated system to achieve colour accuracy and consistency in packaging printing, is being rolled out in Europe after extensive development and beta site testing.

The system offers tailored colour management, irrespective of printing process, to brand managers, designers, repro houses and packaging printers. SmartColour is based on building a colour library with specific, measurable attributes that allows exact colour choice and control.

SmartColour employs an exclusive system of computerised tools to measure and visualise colour choices. One key element is the PreView software which places a digitally defined colour into separated designs to easily and dramatically demonstrate its appearance on a given substrate.

"I am very encouraged by the results we are achieving with SmartColour," said Gordon Stone, Director, Colour Management for Sun Chemical Europe Packaging Inks. "I genuinely believe those of us in the packaging industry facing the need for colour consistency using many different processes, inks and substrates, will benefit greatly from what SmartColour has to offer."

For brand owners, SmartColour can speed the approvals process and lower costs by reducing guesswork on colour choices while harmonizing colours to promote a targeted image. Printers should be able to lower total costs, improve press utilisation, reduce waste and be able to offer certified colour guarantees.

"Variations in colour can diminish the value of a brand," explains Sun Chemical's Corporate Vice President, Chris Morrissey. "Now SmartColour offers brand managers and printers a way of controlling the variables, utilizing consistent products and procedures wherever they do business around the globe."

Sun Chemical will present SmartColour at drupa 2004 in PrintCity Hall 6, Booths A79 and B79. Please visit
