Sun Chemical Partners Derby Evening Telegraph and Leicester Mercury to Top International IFRA Quality Awards

London - May 25, 2004 -- Sun Chemical's partnerships in pursuit of improved quality for its regional newspaper customers has paid dividends for the Derby Evening Telegraph and the Leicester Mercury, both of which have been awarded membership of the prestigious Ifra International Newspaper Colour Club.

The two Northcliffe Newspapers Group titles are the only two UK publications to receive the accolade for 2004-2006. Only 50 titles have been awarded membership out of 180 newspaper applicants from 34 countries.

Membership, which lasts two years, is given for overall newspaper quality of pictures and stories and the processes through which they are managed. Sun Chemical worked closely with production staff at both papers to achieve the quality standards necessary and to win the coveted nomination.

Tracy Wright and Ken Calderwood, General Managers at printers Northcliffe Press, Leicester and Derby respectively issued a joint statement saying: "This is a tremendous achievement by the teams at Leicester and Derby. It is a reward for the hard work and dedication shown by our people on a daily basis as we strive to ensure that each and every copy printed each week gets top its final destination well presented and printed to our stringent quality standards. Sterling support from our suppliers, first class origination and sound preventative maintenance procedures have ensure that our presses are able to compete in quality terms with anyone."

The Derby Evening Telegraph is printed on Goss Colorliner and Goss HT70 presses which operate round the clock, seven days a week. The Leicester Mercury prints on Goss HT60 presses.
