Sun Chemical renews ink supplies
in support of RIT’s printing laboratory
Chicago, IL
- October 10, 2004 -- Sun Chemical, the world's foremost ink manufacturer, is renewing its commitment to support the education and technology efforts of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) by contributing over 30,000 pounds of heatset inks for use in its state-of-the-art Heidelberg Web Press Laboratory. This marks the fourth year of Sun Chemical's commitment to RIT at this level, but it has been a long-term supporter of the lab, having begun ink donations in 1986.
"Sun Chemical is proud to contribute to RIT's world-class programs in graphic media, printing systems and traditional and electronic publishing," said Mark J. Levin, corporate vice president, Sun Chemical North American Publication Inks. "The future of our industry depends on educating tomorrow's leaders for the printing industry. The cutting-edge research and education at RIT will go a long way toward shaping the future of printing."
"We at RIT are pleased to have continued support from Sun Chemical," said Pat Sorce, co-director of RIT's Printing Industry Center and new administrative chair of the School of Print Media. "The commitment of the ink industry's leading manufacturer plays a vital role in our program's success."
The Heidelberg Web Press Laboratory is a focal point of the Printing Industry Center at RIT, aligning all of RIT's resources dedicated to printing education and research. The center includes RIT's School of Print Media, the Printing Applications Laboratory and Industry Education Programs.
Sun Chemical's inks are used on a Heidelberg Sunday 2000 press housed in an 11,000 square foot facility. In addition to RIT's degree programs, the press system is used to conduct extensive analysis and research of consumables and paper for the web offset printing market.
