Sun Chemical Carlstadt Facility Offers Shelter to Lindbergh School Students in Evacuation Drill

Carlstadt, NJ - May 20, 2005 -- In cooperation with the Carlstadt Board of Education and the  local Office of Emergency Management, Sun Chemical will participate in a simulated Terrorist Attack Drill held by Lindbergh School on May 24.

At 2:15 p.m. on May 24, about 100 Lindbergh School children between the ages of seven and eight-years-old are scheduled to evacuate their building to the safety of Sun Chemical's Daniel Carlick Technical Center on Central Avenue in Carlstadt.  School officials said they prefer Sun Chemical's location as a gathering point because children can access the center by walking across athletic fields in the back of the school, rather then walking along town streets to Borough Hall.  Parents will pick up their children at Sun Chemical.

Sun Chemical has an established commitment to community safety in Carlstadt. Their technical center serves as the primary emergency operations center (EOC) for the Carlstadt Office of Emergency Management, as well as the secondary EOC for other Bergen communities and the Bergen/Hudson Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Additionally, Sun Chemical does other work with local school districts, including its award winning Science+ program that sends its scientists into classrooms to conduct experiments with students.

"Sun Chemical has been part of the Carlstadt community for over 40 years, always with a dedication to being a good neighbor," said Joseph Patti, director of facility management, Sun Chemical. "The safety of our people and their families is a top priority at Sun Chemical, and we are happy to be able to extend that to the community in which we live and work."

Acting New Jersey Governor, Richard Codey, has made school security a focus of his administration. At a school security summit held this month at Rutgers University, Mr. Codey announced an initiative for training school administrators and teachers in security and emergency management.
