Sun Chemical's Print05 Exhibit Draws Printers from 44 Countries Seeking New Ink Technology
Northlake, IL
- September 21, 2005 -- Sun Chemical today reported excellent results from its participation in Print 05, the world's largest graphic arts exposition this year. The show, held Sept. 9-15 in Chicago, drew over 700 qualified printers from 44 countries to the Sun Chemical booth. Of those, 60 percent indicated their intention to buy new ink products within the next three months.
"Kohl & Madden had excellent results at Print 05 where we showcased our new Liberty™ inks, one of the few breakthrough technologies introduced at the show," said Brad Bergey, president, Kohl & Madden, the commercial printing division of Sun Chemical. "Word spread quickly at the show that we had something special, and this resulted in increased traffic. Already, hundreds of printers have placed orders to trial the product."
Liberty inks will stay open indefinitely on press, yet they dry extremely quickly due to a new proprietary chemistry, he explained. This allows a demonstrable increase in productivity for printers by shortening the manufacturing process while delivering excellent printed results. In addition, he said, the formulation does not use volatile organic compounds or cobalt dryers, making it more environmentally friendly.
"Today's successful printers strive to increase efficiencies and reduce operating costs while providing unbelievable service, flexibility and quality. Liberty was developed to help meet those challenges," Bergey said. "It provides unmatched productivity and maximizes print quality to provide the most competitive ink product for commercial printers."
Other Sun Chemical business units reported good results from their participation in Print 05, according to Chris Morrissey, corporate vice president, marketing. "Sun Chemical was able to demonstrate its show theme of providing the Total Package."
At Print 05, Sun Chemical¹s North American Publication Inks launched UltraPrint™ Universal ink and two Rycoline fountain solutions as the newest additions to its PrintEasy™ line of products for heatset offset printing. PrintEasy features performance heatset inks and fountain solutions tailored for wider ranges of paper stocks, eliminating the need to frequently change inks or order special ink formulations.
UltraPrint Universal is a premium commercial product suited for use on a broader range of substrates from lightweight to heavyweight coated paper. It offers improved dot gain and gray balance for excellent color fidelity. In addition, it has excellent gloss, rub and scuff resistance and finishing capability with varnishes or UV coatings. Other PrintEasy inks include Solar™ for newsprint, SunShine™ for SCA and LWC, and Challenge™ for lightweight to medium-weight coated stocks.
"Our goal was to develop products that work with ranges of paper stocks, and was designed around end-use requirements," said Mark Levin, president, North American Publication Inks. "Our PrintEasy line allows us to proceed toward our ultimate goal, which is to be able to ship quality inks from the Print Easy product line on the same day they are ordered."
Sun Chemical also exhibited its new Rycoline fountain solutions, the PrintEasy 2000 and 4000 Series, which are designed for use specifically with PrintEasy inks.
"By developing our PrintEasy fountain solutions, we can assure compatibility, which is really effective for customers as it eliminates guesswork," Levin said. "We know that the ink and fountain solution are compatible, which increases our ability to help printers maximize their productivity. We¹ve had wonderful success rolling out these products."
"We also were able to announce our first commercial installation of a FastJet™ press for digital printing on corrugated packages, and show the range of solutions we offer for brand security," Morrissey said. "Overall, I'd say the show was quite successful for Sun Chemical because the printers who attended were looking to buy, and many came to see us. Sun Chemical made Print 05 the focus of its North American marketing efforts for the second half of the year, and all the pre-show activities and advertising paid off."
