Achieving Sustainability Goals Using Sun Chemical’s Product Portfolio

Sun Chemical drives sustainability during the research and development phase of all its products. Booth visitors will learn about the many products that fit the company’s 2030 Sustainability Agenda and are included as part of its SunEco portfolio of solutions.

One example is SunSpectro SolvaWash GR and FL washable/deinkable gravure and flexo-printable solvent-based inks, a solution that enable brand owners to increase the recyclability of their products that use shrink labels. SunSpectro SolvaWash allows for higher quality and yield of recycled PET from bottle recycling streams.

Sun Chemical’s SunBeam range of electron beam–curing inks for printed packaging and labels are solvent-free, eliminating the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and avoiding the need for UV photoinitiators. SunBeam inks also contain 30 percent bio-based content.

The SunCure FLM  series of energy curable inks for primary and secondary food packaging meets migration compliant standards and are not manufactured with Bisphenol A (BPA)-based materials. Compliant with the strictest global standards in the marketplace, these inks meet the latest photoinitiator safe packaging guidelines and provide low odor and very low residual extractables characteristics, while maintaining the highest standards of pressroom performance.

Sun Chemical will also highlight its SolarFlex inks for UV flexo printing on a variety of substrates, including paper, board, film and other sensitive applications. Sun Chemical’s SolarVerse highly pigmented, low viscosity, multipurpose UV flexo base concentrates, are designed for standard UV flexo dispensers and offer customers significant benefits in terms of cost savings and flexibility.

Sun Chemical will present its UV cured SolarLam® series of adhesives for in-line lamination of transparent films with papers or films printed with flexographic water-based and UV ink for the narrow web market.

For digital printers, Sun Chemical currently offers SunEvo™, coatings and a complementary range of SunJet inkjet inks. With the SunEvo range of digital primers, overprint varnishes and lamination adhesives, Sun Chemical can help customers in flexible packaging, labels, folding carton and corrugated unleash the full power of digital printing.

Sun Chemical uses its ‘5Rs’ framework as a guide to enhance the sustainability of its technology and product portfolios. The five Rs in the framework are: Reuse, Reduce, Renew, Recycle and Redesign. This framework, along with continuous investment into R&D to improve the eco-efficiency and sustainability of its inks, coatings and adhesives, enable Sun Chemical to support a circular economy, as well as reducing its footprint.
