Oxygen Barrier Coatings for Package Lightweighting and Extended Shelf Life

Sun Chemical’s SunBar (Aerobloc) oxygen barrier coatings create barriers against moisture, oxygen, CO2, UV light, odor, and migration. Designed to increase impressions per roll while enhancing shelf life and product quality, SunBar (Aerobloc) improves recyclability and provides flexibility for packaging windows and other design elements.

SunBar (Aerobloc) oxygen barrier coatings provide converters with cost effective, durable, and sustainable films that support lighter weight packaging trends by creating a homogenous, pinhole-free, and flexible gas barrier layer that can be easily overprinted with inks and laminated to a variety of secondary films.

A cost-effective, compostable, chlorine- and metal-free alternative that allows for lighter-weight packaging, SunBar (Aerobloc) oxygen barrier coatings offer a reduced carbon footprint and easy application with few changes to current equipment. Through its partnership with acpo, ltd., SunBar (Aerobloc) pre-coated films are readily available for converters.

SunBar (Aerobloc) oxygen barrier coatings is an important product highlighted in Sun Chemical’s Guide to Sustainable Packaging and is an example of how Sun Chemical is focused on working to promote sustainable solutions that contribute to a circular economy. The Guide to Sustainable Packaging will show how we’re aligning our sustainability goals in packaging with those of the United Nations in its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
