Surface Printing on a Wide Variety of Films

The SunSpectro family of high-performance inks for high-speed surface printing increase pressroom productivity. These solvent- or water-based inks are designed for surface printing on a wide variety of films including polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for flexible packaging.

Some common benefits include:

  • High-speed printing with no defects
  • Easy cleanup and resolubility
  • Designed to provide heat, water, scuff and rub resistance

Below are some examples of key products within the SunSpectro family of inks that we offer:

SunSpectro SolvaGreen

Suitable for organic and natural food packaging, SunSpectro® SolvaGreen flexographic and gravure solvent-based inks feature naturally derived resins and additives and are meant for surface printing on biodegradable films.

These inks conform to the North American standard, ASTM-D: 6954-04, and the European standards for compostability, EN 13432, contain low levels of heavy metals, use a selective pigment range, utilize existing color concentrates to provide a comprehensive color palette, and provide excellent adhesion and non-blocking properties on biodegradable films.

Containing high-renewable content, SunSpectro SolvaGreen enables enhanced biodegradability and compostability.

SunSpectro Solvaplast

A solvent-based ink, SunSpectro Solvaplast is suitable for printing on the exterior of polyolefin films. The inks have good printability, gloss and excellent mechanical strength, as well as high resistance to dry dusting and scratches.

SunSpectro Sunsharp

Sun Chemical’s SunSpectro Sunsharp inks are designed for consistent high-speed printing with no print defects to help you improve productivity and increase customer satisfaction. SunSpectro Sunsharp White for print applications offers vibrant white inks that provide the high opacity needed for improved package appeal.

When printing on polyethylene film, SunSpectro Sunsharp HR solvent-based inks provide moderate heat resistance of up to 350 degrees, maintain excellent gloss, and are suitable for use with conventional and high-performance printing plates.

Many of these SunSpectro products are highlighted in Sun Chemical’s Guide for Sustainable Packaging which discusses how Sun Chemical is aligning its goals with those of the United Nations in its Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
