The Power of Labels

Sun Chemical’s Approach to Sustainable Labels

Sun Chemical is committed to supporting the narrow web, tag and label industry achieve its sustainability goals. The following statistics about plastic waste, as described in our Guide to Sustainable Packaging, shows just how important it is for the label printing industry to do its part.

Our approach to sustainable product development includes risk management and eco-efficiency improvements, as well as a proactive approach in working with suppliers, customers, and industry trade groups to promote best practices.

We’ve developed solutions in the marketplace that enable brand owners to increase the recyclability of their products that use shrink labels. For example, Sun Chemical offers SunSpectro Solvawash, a recycling-friendly washable ink technology designed for crystallizable PET shrink sleeves that can be removed from post-consumer printed PET packaging without staining the flake or wash water during the hot caustic wash step of the recycling process.

Critical to our approach is aligning our goals with those of the United Nations in its Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, “a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity.” Watch our video to see our approach to sustainability.

Our Guide to Sustainable Packaging identifies actions that you can take that align with some of the 17 UN goals below that we believe will have a positive impact in the development of a more sustainable NWTL market.
